Vinith and Aarthi win under-12 titles

CHENNAI: I. Vinith Kumar (Preshitha MHSS, Porur) with 6.5 points and G. Aarthi (G.K. Shetty V.V., Ambattur) with 5 points emerged the boys’ and girls’ champions respectively in the Under-13 section in the Jaya Rolling trophy district chess championship.

S. Rahul (SBOA) 5 pts and B. Kiruthika (S.D. Vijaya Rediyar MHSS) 4 pts were the winners in Under-7 section, S. Akash (G.K. Shetty Vivekananda Vidyalaya) 5 pts and S. Monika (Velammal MHSS) 4 pts in the U-9 section and R. Harikrishnan (Sethu Bhaskara MHSS) 6 pts and V. Varshini (Velammal MHSS) 4 pts in the U-11 section.

Monisha’s triumph

Velammal’s G.K. Monisha, the State and National girls’ under-9 champion last year, played the boys’ under-12 event of the Madras Cements annual open chess tournament organised by the Children’s Club Society and emerged triumphant with a hundred-percent win record.

Eight share lead

Eight players share the lead with four points each at the end of the fourth round in the FIDE-rated Open chess tournament being held in Tirunelveli.

The leaders are Alex Thomas and K.A. Unas (Kerala), Scanny (Tirunelveli), Dusthageer Ibrahim, S.S. Manigandan and Ganesh Babu (Madurai), Linda Rangarajan (Pondicherry) and M.J. Noohu (Chennai).
