Try to be creative, nurses told

TIRUCHI: Creativity is the key to success in any profession. None the less, the nursing profession. With an increased level of prospects for those with higher level of competence, nurses should spontaneously adopt creativity, observed Principal of Indra College of Nursing, Tiruvarur, Chennai, Rosalin Rachel.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Critical thinking and creative thinking in nursing practice’ at the Dr. G. Sakunthala College of Nursing here on Monday, Prof. Rachel said that nurses should be smart, simple, sensitive and responsive to the needs of patients. Careful application of their knowledge would go a long way in delivering the goods. A nurse should have a sound knowledge of the illness of every patient, she said.

The Head of Commerce Department, Bishop Heber College, B. K. Boominathan, underlined the significance of the services of nurses. The function also marked the inauguration of the ‘Society of Midwives India’ (SOMI) Chapter at the college.

College Principal S. Parasakthi said that the Chapter would sensitise students to the importance of the selfless services of nursing and motivate them to take to creativity in their profession. Celebrations of important events and observance of ‘Nurses Day’; ‘World Breast-feeding Week’; ‘Midwives Day’ and ‘New-born Week’ would be other major activities of the Chapter.

Earlier, the ‘Lamp lighting ceremony’ of the students was held. Prof. Rachel and GVN Group of Hospitals secretary V. Kanagaraj spoke on the responsibilities of nurses. College lecturer Mettilda administered the Florence Nightingale pledge to the students. The students recited a song on lamp lighting.
