Re-designation of nurses likely

PUDUCHERRY: The government has ordered revision of payscales of nursing staff of different health institutions in the Union Territory on a par with Central government hospitals.

The revision, with the approval of the Lieutenant Government, has been announced in a Government Order.

A release from the Office of Home and Health Minister said that the government earlier approved the revised payscales from January 1, 2006 based on the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.

However, service associations had been demanding grant of revised payscale of different categories of nursing staff on a par with Central government health institutions.

The demand was scrutinised by the Implementation Cell of the Finance Department.

Following recommendations of the cell, the government approved the revised payscales and grade pay for different categories of nursing staff.

Accordingly, staff nurse would receive a revised scale of Rs. 7,450 to Rs. 11,500, while head nurse would get Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 12,000. Nursing superintendent (grade II) and nursing superintendent (grade I) would receive a revised payscale of Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 13,500.

The government was also looking at re-designation of nurses on a par with Central Government Hospital for certain posts.

A suitable amendment in the recruitment rules would be issued separately, the release said.
