“NDA did not pursue case”

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday sought to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party’s allegation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy patronising the Satyam group of companies, by stating that had the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) pursued the investigations launched in 2001, this scam would have come to light much earlier.

According to Congress media in-charge Veerappa Moily, a complaint had been filed against Satyam group of companies in 2001 and investigations had revealed manipulation of funds. But, because the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was the kingmaker in the NDA, the Vajpayee government did not pursue the case further, he said.

However, Mr. Moily did not reply to a question why the United Progressive Alliance government had not pursued the case in the four-and-a-half years it had been in power at the Centre.
