Kohli and Chopra fined

CUTTACK: North Zone’s Virat Kohli and Aakash Chopra found themselves on the wrong side of the law in their match against East Zone in the Prof. D.B. Deodhar Trophy tournament at the Barabati Stadium here on Saturday.

Kohli, who was caught and bowled by Assam pacer Dhiraj Goswami for a paltry seven, had a heated exchange of words before returning to the pavilion. His misdemeanour was reported to the match referee, Hemant Wasu, by the onfield umpires for which the Delhi lad was docked 50 per cent of his match fee after a hearing conducted after the match. Goswami got away with verbal reprimand.

Chopra was charged with showing dissent for an umpiring decision and was fined 20 per cent of his match fee. When umpire Suresh Shastri declared the batsman out leg before to Manoj Tiwary, the batsman was seen showing the bat to the umpire. — Special Correspondent
