CHANIDGARH: Former national champion Vijay Kannan perspired his way past Yogesh Phogat 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 in the second qualifying round of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here on Saturday. N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth was the other Indian to make the final qualifying round as he outplayed Vikas Chauhan 6-1, 6-0. While these two players will have one only round to negotiate on Sunday for a berth in the main draw, following a bye in the first round of the qualifying event, the rest of the Indian players including Vikram Reddy, Prateek Bhambri, Yannick Nelord, Nishank Mishra, Tushar Liberhan, Akash Wagh, Shivang Mishra, Abhijeet Tiwari, Digvijay Singh Mehta, Punna Vishal, Kamala Kannan and Karunuday Singh may have to play two rounds of the qualifying event, if they manage to win their second round on Sunday. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
