Wild – Animals behaving worse

The programme shows how simple experiments demonstrate and test the ability of animals to sort out the challenges in front of them. The series looks at the fate of animals that, rather than finding ways to take advantage of humanity’s inadvertent largesse, have become imperilled by the environmental impact of human societies.

Dogfight

WB, Saturday, 5.20 p.m.

The film, directed by Nancy Savoca, stars Lili Taylor. The story is about losing innocence and discovering love.

In November 1963, four young marines in San Francisco celebrate their last night before leaving to fight in Vietnam with a ‘dogfight,’ a competition in which the man who brings the ugliest date wins. Handsome Eddie Birdlace convinces Rose to accompany him on a date — but he does not tell her she is part of the dogfight. Despite the pain he causes, Eddie discovers the last thing he expects — love.

The Mackintosh Man

WB, Sunday, 2 p.m.

Directed by John Huston this film stars Dominique Sanda and Paul Newman. A British intelligence officer posing as a diamond thief is sent to jail for 20 years in order to catch a gang that has been arranging escapes from prison for wealthy criminals. It is only his immediate superior, The Mackintosh Man, who knows his real identity.
