Delay condemned

Anna University, Tiruchi, conducted first semester engineering examinations in January 09. The results have not been published till date. Neither the probable date of announcement of results nor the reason for the delay is published in the website. Moreover the students are likely to complete second semester classes in another month and they have to prepare for the next semester examinations without knowing their first semester results. While Anna University, Chennai, has already published the results, the reasons for the delay here is not known.

Resume sale

The Thanjavur District Cooperative Milk Supply Union has been selling two types of milk cards. One is from sixth of every month and the other from tenth. This was convenient for those who receive their salary after fifth of every month. But suddenly sales of the latter has been dispensed with without any prior intimation or notice. This has resulted in great hardship to salaried employees who are deprived of buying Aavin milk which is the only pure milk available in the market. The sale of milk cards, the one from tenth may be restored in the best interest of the consumers as usual.

Restrict holidays to concerned regions

Gurunanak Birthday, Mahavir Jayanthi, Buddha Poornima and Ugadi are celebrated in certain regions of the country. But these days are declared holidays for the whole of India. This is not necessary. Since normal life of the people is affected during these days, I request the government to confine these holidays only to those regions.

No boarding at stops

The passengers bound for Alangudi and stops between Kumbakonam and Alangudi are allowed to board buses at the Kumbakonam bus stand only in the last minute by conductors of both State Transport Corporation and private buses. This causes hardship to passengers of intermediate destinations.

In need of more bus services

The absence of frequent bus services on the Karaikal - Kumbakonam Road is causing much hardship to a large number of office-goers, school students and old people. Buses plying in this route are always jampacked. I request the STC to operate more buses on this route.

Introduce specials

Thanks to the railway authorities for introducing short distance summer specials in Tiruchi - Karaikudi - Manamadurai - Madurai - Tiruchi sector. There is a high demand for introducing more trains in Tiruchi - Thanjavur - Thiruvarur - Nagore line also. I request the authorities to consider introducing short distance summer specials in this route also.

Online facility

Mistakes in name, sex, street name, house number are very common in the EPIC cards. If Election Commission provides online arrangements for these corrections, it would be a welcome measure for the public. After corrections are made, the Election Commission can send the new ID cards to their residential address.

Operate more flights

With the opening of new passenger terminal and augmented CISF personnel in Tiruchi, the airport authorities shall operate more international flights to Saudi Arabia. Also operating of some Haj flights directly from Tiruchi would be more beneficial to the people in the central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

Stop sand smuggling

My wife and I travelled in a car to Tirukattupalli in Thanjavur district recently. We went through the Tiruchi -Grand Anaicut ( Kallanai) road. When the car crossed Venghur Panchayat we were shocked to find more than one hundred double bullock carts carrying sand from the river bed of Coleroon river. We found that before the end of Tiruchi district border limit and the beginning of the jurisdiction of Thanjavur district several carts were indulged in sand mining to a large extent. We did not find even a single revenue or police official to monitoring the huge drawl of sand or to stop this ecological disaster. This scenario was between 6 and 6.30 a.m. and on our return at 11 a.m.
