GUWAHATI: Suspected militants raided a village and burnt down all 14 houses there in southern Assam’s North Cachar Hills district on Friday morning, forcing the residents to flee to a nearby jungle. One resident sustained a bullet wound when the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing at Joraibasti, 6 km from Haflong, the district headquarters. The injured villager, Munidra Langthasa, was admitted to the Haflong Civil Hospital. The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the attackers who came in battle fatigues and were heavily armed. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
