LONDON: Australia-born Brendan Nash’s 81 couldn’t prevent England beating the West Indies by 10 wickets to win the first cricket Test at Lord’s here on Friday with more than two days to spare. Nash, together with Denesh Ramdin (61), however, helped the West Indies avoid an innings defeat. The duo added 143 for the sixth wicket — the only century partnership of the match — after the West Indies had been made to follow-on. Nash was the last man out as the West Indies was all out for 256, leaving England with just 32 runs to win. Cruising homeEngland knocked off the required runs without losing any wicket and went 1-0 up in the series ahead of next week’s second and final Test at Durham’s Riverside ground. — Agencies © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
