Shop, house gutted in Madikeri

Fire service personnel trying to extinguish the fire at a shop in Madikeri on Friday.

Madikeri: A fancy shop located at the Indira Gandhi Chowk in the city here was gutted when fire broke out on Friday night. The accident was caused, apparently, due to short circuit, the police said.

Fire spread to a nearby shop as well. Passersby alerted the fire service personnel. Fire was brought under control at around 11 p.m. on Friday.

The general public and the police joined hands with the fire service personnel to extinguish the fire. The loss incurred is being assessed.

A house in Indiranagar area also caught fire on Friday afternoon and short circuit was suspected to be the reason, according to the police. Neighbours rushed to the house on seeing fire and rescued a boy who was inside the house when the fire broke out. The boy was reportedly sick and his parents had gone to work when the incident occurred.
