Pangolin rescued, brought to zoo

Safe: The Pangolin (scaly anteater) rescued by the public at Maniyakarampalayam and brought to the VOC Park in Coimbatore on Thursday.

Coimbatore: A two-year-old female Pangolin (anteater) that was spotted near Sanganur canal here was rescued by two persons on Thursday and was later brought to the Coimbatore Corporation Zoo at VOC Park.

Team

Following information, the Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Circle, R. Kannan and District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen deputed a team led by Forest Veterinarian, N.S. Manoharan.

“Not knowing what the animal is and its behavioural pattern, the local residents have inflicted injuries on it,” Mr. Manoharan said.

First aid

The Pangolin was given first aid at the zoo.

After ensuring its complete healing, the animal would be released into wilderness, he said.
