Unique: Guests with the saplings at the wedding of Mayor M. Subramanian’s son in Chennai on Thursday. CHENNAI: It was a pleasant surprise for guests at the wedding of Mayor M. Subramaniam’s son as they received a sapling each instead of the regular thaamboolam bag. Over 30,000 saplings were given to the guests at the wedding in the city on Thursday. Saplings of teak, neem, naval, mathi, poovarasu and pungai were given. Mr. Subramanian said he had planned six months ago to give saplings at the wedding of Ilanchezhian with Greetha. For this he had made arrangements with a nursery. Pungai and Poovarasu are avenue trees. “It is my contribution towards greening the city,” he said. Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over the wedding held at Kalaingar Arangam.
