ELURU: P. Sridhar Rao, president of the West Godavari District Consumer Forum, on Friday directed the Branch Manager, Professional Couriers, Bhimavaram, to pay Rs. 5 lakh coupled with another Rs. 1,000 towards litigation cost to a degree student as a compensation for its defective services. According to information, Settipalli Vamsikrishna, a B.Sc. student of Puppallagudem in Lingapalem mandal, was deprived of admission in post-graduation in biotechnology in Osmania University due to the failure by the courier service in delivering his application to the university authorities in time. He contended that he has sent the application along with a demand draft for Rs 750 to the Convener, Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET), Osmania University well in advance. He said he, however, did not receive the hall-ticket from the ICET authorities on the ground that his application failed to reach its destination in time. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
