Higher study options for B.Tech. (IT) students
There are several higher study options including M.Tech. and MBA for B.Tech. holders in information technology. Admission to M.Tech./ME programmes is open to engineering graduates who score a minimum of 60 per cent in their graduation and qualify Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) with high score in the relevant branch. Final-year and pre-final-year B.Tech. students are eligible to appear for the examination. Almost all engineering colleges including the IITs and the NITs admit students to M.Tech./ME programme based on GATE score. Some institutes specify GATE as the mandatory qualification for admitting students to self-financing seats. Engineering graduates in IT can also choose software engineering, computer science and engineering, computer and information science, industrial engineering, engineering statistics and so on for their M.Tech./ME programmes. Students with a valid GATE score can apply for M.Tech. in computer science and engineering in IIT Madras. Details of eligibility for admission to this course can be obtained from www.iitm.ac.in. IIT Kharagpur offers M.Tech. in disciplines such as information technology, computer science and engineering and industrial engineering and management. B.Tech./BE degree holders in the relevant discipline with a valid GATE score can apply. Admission notification usually comes in March every year (http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/mtech). IIT Roorke offers M.Tech. in disciplines such as computer science and engineering and information technology. Engineering graduates in any discipline with 60 per cent marks are eligible for admission ( www.iitr.ernet.in). IIT Kanpur offers M.Tech. in computer science and engineering and Master of Design (M.Des.) ( www.iitk.ac.in/dept). The IITs in Mumbai, Delhi and Guwahati offer M.Tech. programme in various disciplines. More details can be had from — www.iitb.ac.in, www.iitd.ac.in, www.iitg.ac.in. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) offers ME in computer science and software systems ( www.bits-pilani.ac.in, www.bitsadmission.com/hd/). Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi ( www.bitmesra.ac.in) offers ME in software engineering. Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, offers ME in computer science and engineering. BE/B.Tech. holders in computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, electronics and instrumentation, instrumentation and control, information technology with good marks are eligible for admission. Pondicherry University, Puduchery, conducts M.Tech. programmes in computer science and engineering, network and Internet engineering. Selection will be based on an entrance test ( www.pondiuni.edu.in). University of Hyderabad ( www.uohyd.ernet.in) offers M.Tech. in computer science, artificial intelligence, information technology, computational techniques, and bioinformatics. NIT Surathkal (Karnataka) offers M.Tech. in computer engineering and Ph.D. in information technology ( www.nitk.ac.in). Amrita School of Engineering at Coimbatore conducts M.Tech. programmes in computational engineering and networking, computer vision and image processing and cyber security. Undergraduates in the relevant branches with 60 per cent marks can apply. Those who have qualified GATE will be given preference ( www.amrita.edu). Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, under the Amrita Vishwavidyapeetham offers M.Tech in Nanomedical Sciences. B.Tech holders are also eligible for admission ( www.amrita.edu). Manipal Institute of Technology under the Manipal University offers M.Tech. in computer science and engineering, digital electronics and advanced communication, network engineering, software engineering ( www.admissions.manipal.edu). Jadavpur University, Faculty of Engineering and Technology offers M.Tech. in computer science and engineering, information technology and software engineering ( www.jadavpur.edu). Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi -110403, conducts M.Tech. (IT), computer science and technology, information security ( www.ipu.ac.in). Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, conducts M.Tech. courses in computer and information science, and software engineering. First class B.Tech. degree holders in computer science or information technology are also eligible for admission. Preference will be given to GATE qualified applicants ( www.cusat.nic.in). The Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K), Thiruvananthapuram, ( www.iiitmk.ac.in) offers a postgraduate diploma programme in information technology for graduates in any branches of engineering or technology with at least 50 per cent marks. Selection is based on entrance test and interview. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing offers diploma courses in embedded systems design, system software development, advanced business computing. Engineering degree holders in various branches are eligible for admission. Selection is based on a common entrance test ( www.cdac.in). Another suitable option is MBA. C-DAC, Noida, offers two-year fulltime MBA in software enterprise management. BE/B.Tech. degree holders in computer science, IT, electronics or MCA with 60 per cent marks are eligible for admission ( www.cdacnoida.in).
