VIJAYAWADA: Director of the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) P.V.R. Prasad has said that statistics intersperse with every individual’s life. Addressing a seminar on ‘Importance of statistics in social and economic planning’ organised to mark the National Statistics Day on Monday, Mr. Prasad said statistics was all about gathering and analysing information. Pointing out that the day was observed to commemorate statistician Prasant Chandra Mahalanobis and his contribution to the national development, he said Mahalanobis played an active role in formulation of the financial policies and programmes aimed at the uplift of the society in the post-Independence era. D. Madhu Malathi of Eluru-Based St. Teresa College said knowledge of statistics for people involved in implementation of welfare and developmental programmes was essential. She said collecting and analysing information before implementing welfare programmes aimed as eradication of poverty were key to the success of any drive. Faculty from DNR College in Bhimavaram and Rajahmundry-based SKVT College also spoke. The Department of Statistics in Andhra Loyola College also celebrated the occasion by organising a seminar on ‘Census data dissemination”. Vice-Principal of the college Fr.
