BJP’s reaction points to guilty mind: Congress

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday said “aggressive protests” by the Bharatiya Janata Party, even before the contents of the Liberhan Commission report were out, pointed to a “guilty mind.”

All India Congress Committee member in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Digivjay Singh said there was a conspiracy to bring down the Babri Masjid. “The government will place the report before people. A conspiracy was hatched. The entire world has seen on television that BJP leaders were involved,” he said.

Mr. Singh accused Uma Bharti, Vinay Katiyar, Murli Manohar Joshi, L. K. Advani and Kalyan Singh of conspiring to pull down the mosque.

Charging Mr. Advani with “double-speak,” he said that while Mr. Advani claimed that he shed tears when the mosque was demolished, BJP leaders said it was a matter of pride for them.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi also said the BJP’s reaction was a result of its “guilty conscience.” The government should take action on the Commission’s report and punish the guilty.
