To supply Heat Recovery Steam Generator for power plant

TIRUCHI: The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi, has secured a Rs.170-crore contract from the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) for supply of a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), meant for setting up an energy-efficient and environment friendly co-generation power plant at its Manali refinery.

Of the 150 contracts awarded to the BHEL, Tiruchi, so far by various entities for supply of HRSGs of varying capacities, 121 have already been commissioned.

The CPCL has placed the Rs.170-crore order for setting up a 20 MW (Frame-5) Gas Turbine-based co-generation power plant reposing confidence in BHEL’s capabilities and technical excellence, according to a press release.

The CPCL is setting up the project to meet additional power and steam requirements of the refinery as part of its endeavour to comply with Euro-IV emission norms.

BHEL-installed captive power plants

The Manali refinery is already equipped with three BHEL-installed captive power plants, all of which have been operating successfully and efficiently, meeting the power as well as steam needs of the refinery.

The BHEL’s scope of work in the present project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the HRSG of 85 tons per hour (TPH) capacity, with associated auxiliaries and balance of plant. The equipment for the project will be supplied by BHEL’s plants at Tiruchi, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Bangalore and Jhansi. Erection and commissioning of the captive power plant will be carried out by the company’s Power Sector – Southern Region, Chennai.

Market leader

The BHEL has emerged as the market leader in co-generation and captive power plants, offering units from 10 MW onwards for both steam turbine-based and gas-based combined cycle power projects for total power and process steam requirements of various industries.

So far, the company has supplied and commissioned more than 700 steam turbine and gas turbine-based plants for a host of industries like metal, paper, sugar, cement and process industries like refineries, petrochemicals and fertilizer, the release said.
