Of a choice: M. Kutralingam, Secretary, School Education handing over seat allotment certificate to a candidate for Diploma in Teachers Education Course on the first day of counselling in Tiruchi on Thursday. TIRUCHI: Single Window System (SWS) counselling for allotment of seats to applicants of Diploma in Teacher Education (D.T.Ed) course, conducted for the first time in Tiruchi district, commenced at the R.C. Teacher Training Institute here on Thursday. First allotmentM. Kutralingam, Secretary, School Education Department, handed over the first seat allotment certificate to S. Dhinesh of Thirubuvanam, in the presence of the Director of the Directorate of Teacher Education Research and Training (DTERT) R. Elangovan, and the Chief Educational Officer, Tiruchi, M. Swaminathan. With a score of 1,094 marks in Plus Two, the candidate opted for the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Aduthurai. Special categoryThe first day of counselling was for physically handicapped students in the ‘special category’. Counselling under the same category for wards of ex-servicemen and freedom fighters would be conducted on Friday at the centre. For four mediumsFrom July 4, the process would be undertaken there for candidates of Telugu, Malayalam, Urdu and English mediums. Between July 6 and 18, the counselling for Science – Tamil medium – would take place at the Nagammai Teacher Training Institute, from July 6 to 17 for Arts – Tamil medium – at Oxford Teacher Training Institute, and for the same duration for Vocational – Tamil medium – at Periyar Teacher Training Institute. The department chose Tiruchi as the counselling venue this year owing to its central location, considering the travel convenience of candidates. Till last year, the process of counselling and allotment was carried out at Chennai. The process of allotting seats to 21,595 candidates would culminate on July 18. Official sources said that call letters for vacancies arising due to absence of the invited candidates would be sent in time for the rest of the 23,643 applicants.
