VIJAYAWADA: The Mahila Sessions Court on Thursday framed charges under Sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Pidatala Satyambabu, accused in the murder of Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera. The girl was murdered in a private hostel at Ibrahimpatnam on city outskirts late on December 26, 2007 and the police arrested Satyambabu, a resident of Nandigama, on the charge of killing her.

Mahila Sessions Court Judge Sri Sudha issued orders for commencing cross-examination of witnesses from August 3. Meanwhile, senior advocate Karnati Rammohan Rao, who was arguing on behalf of Satyambabu, raised objection to filing of charges of rape. He also wanted that the trial of all cases filed against Satyambabu be done in one court. Police Commissioner K.V. Rajendranath Reddy attended the court to observe the proceedings.
