CHIKMAGALUR: Four persons died on the spot and 13 were injured when two Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses collided head on near Ajjampura cross, about three km from Tarikere, on the Bangalore-Honnavara national highway at 7.30 a.m. on Friday. One bus was going from Shimoga to Bangalore and the other from Bangalore to Shimoga. The number of causalities was less as there were only seven passengers in one bus and six in the other. The dead have been identified as P.V. Ravi (35) and Somashekar (45), the bus drivers; and Srinivas (50) and Murugendrappa (50) who got on to the bus in Tarikere. The injured, who were admitted to hospitals in Tarikere and Shimoga, are stated to be out of danger. R. Narayanaswamy, Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur district, and D.S. Suresh, MLA, visited the spot. Mr. Suresh announced that Rs. 2.5 lakh compensation would be give to the kin of the dead and Rs. 5,000 to each of the injured. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
