Goa University to start three departments

PANAJI: The Goa University has sent a proposal to the State Government to set up a full-fledged Department of Mass Communication and Media Research and another one on Hotel Management and Tourism.

Vice-Chancellor of Goa University Dileep Deobagkar disclosed this at a press conference on Monday on the eve of Goa University’s silver jubilee year celebration programme.

The latter project is in tune with the demands of the hospitality industry of the coastal tourist State which is a leading tourism destination on international circuit.

The Goa University is signing a memorandum of understanding with the Goa State Industries’ Association, a body representing small and medium enterprises in the State, to set up a Bio-Incubatory and Consultancy Services project.

Mr. Deobagkar said that this project was part of the university’s growing interface with the industry in the arena of research for mutual benefits.

Under this project, the university would interact with the local industry and provide it with new ideas, help the industry in case it had needs that could be fulfilled by the university and come forward to train the manpower for the industry as per the requirement.

The project was expected not only to help new entrepreneurs to test their innovative ideas but help investors coming to the State to test the sustainability of their projects ahead of investment and help investors such as multinational companies to get trained people for their new industrial projects in the State. Speaking about the university’s multifarious research related and other programmes, the Vice-Chancellor said the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusion of Communities had plans to have a project to study marginalised communities such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and even minorities.
