The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. Robert Menzies, addressing a Press conference in Karachi on July 2, confirmed that Australia had agreed to contribute her share which would be “substantial” towards the cost of implementing the World Bank plan to end the Indus Basin water dispute between India and Pakistan. Mr. Menzies said that the shares of “friendly countries” who had agreed to contribute to the building of new canals were being worked out. He said: “We are all pleased at the result of the work of the World Bank in an attempt to solve the Canal water dispute between India and Pakistan. It looks as though we are at the point of witnessing a satisfactory conclusion of the dispute.”
