Pro-poor, says Hooda

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda hailed the Railway Budget 2009-10 presented by Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in Parliament on Friday and described it as a pro-poor budget which catered especially to farmers, women, youth and the common man.

In a statement here, Mr. Hooda appreciated that Haryana would be covered under the Western Corridor project aimed at setting up mega logistic hubs thus giving a boost to the State’s economy.

The proposal to set up cold storage cargoes would benefit the farming community immensely, he added.

‘Izzat’ lauded

He said the proposal to implement the new “Izzat” scheme to give concessional tickets of Rs.25 to those having a monthly income below Rs.1,000 would benefit the poor.

He also appreciated the proposal to deploy doctors on long-distance trains and women commandos for the security of women passengers.

The decision to develop 50 stations as “world-class Stations” would boost tourism, he added.
