Srinagar: Authorities on Friday suspended the Amarnath pilgrimage along the Pahalgam route after inclement weather rendered it unsafe even as a fresh batch of over 2,400 pilgrims began trek to the 3,880 metre high cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir from the Baltal side. “No pilgrim was allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine from Nunwan base camp along the 45-km Pahalgam-cave route this morning,” an official source said. -- PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
