1,000 MW plant to be set up

NEW DELHI: Seeking to provide power back-up for railway services, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced the setting up of a 1,000 MW coal-based plant at Nabi Nagar in Bihar, in association with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

“After detailed discussions with the Ministry of Power, we propose to set up a 1,000 MW power plant at Nabi Nagar,” Ms. Banerjee said while presenting the Railway budget in Parliament.

The project will be executed by an NTPC subsidiary – Bhartiya Rail Bijli Company Limited. Land acquisition for the plant is on.

Corrections and Clarifications

The detail in the first paragraph of a Delhi report "1,000 MW plant to be set up" (July 4, 2009) which said that the Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced the setting up of a 1,000 MW coal-based plant at Nabi Nagar in Bihar, in association with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), is right. This is the second plant. The first 1,000 MW plant, also with NTPC support, will come up in Adra, Purulia district, West Bengal.
