Concern over falling standards in government schools

KORAPUT: Primary schools managed by the State government may be closed in a few years if proper attention was not paid to improve the quality of teaching in these schools, Ranjan Kumar Das, president of the Village Education Committee (VEC) of Pujariput UP School, said.

Speaking at a meeting organised on the occasion of distribution of textbooks on the school premises here on Friday, he expressed concern over drop in new admissions in the school. He said teachers should make extra effort to improve standard of education in schools. Though the government schools have qualified faculty than most of the private schools in the town, they lag way behind private schools in public examination results, he added .

Commitment to deliver the acquired skills and knowledge was one of the most important things for a teacher to become effective for children, Nityananda Pradhan, HOD, Department of Education, DAV College said.However, due to various factors and reasons, teachers were not able to impart all that they had learnt in the process of training. This had further lessened the amount of learning time that was available for the children in the school , he added. A concentrated effort on the part of the teachers and the administration was required to restore faith in the minds of parents to send their children to the government schools, Mr. Pradhan added.
