1,000 temple tanks in the State to be revived

SIVAGANGA: As many as 1000 temple tanks in the State will be revived with the support of local bodies, according to K.R. Periakaruppan, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the construction works estimated at a cost of Rs.1.6 crore at Muthumariamman temple in Thayamangalam near here, he said, out of the 3200 temple tanks rehabilitation works had already been completed in 1300 tanks.

He said that a sum of Rs.10 crore was allotted to repair 300 wooden temple cars that were in damaged condition. Mr.Periakaruppan said that 24 more golden cars will be made soon. . Temples in Ariyakurichi and Nattarasankottai in Sivaganga district would also get golden cars.

He said kumbabishekam had been completed in 3500 temples in the State since 2006. T. Swaminathan, Joint Commissioner, HR & CE, said that the construction works at Thayamangalam would be completed within 6 months.
