Many varieties on display at Mango Mela

CHANDIGARH: As many as 2,835 entries of mangoes from North India are on display at the two-day Mango Mela now on at the historic Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore near here.

The mela was inaugurated on Saturday by Haryana Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha and Minister of State for Tourism Kiran Choudhry.

The highlight this year is the display of 285 rare varieties of mangoes. There are 191 entries of mango products such as mango chutney, aam ka pana, aam papad and mango squash.

Various competitions and cultural shows were organised. The inaugural ceremony also witnessed Sufi Kalam by Barkat Sidhu and party. Mango-based delicacies were offered to the visitors by premier institutions such as Food Crafts Institute, Faridabad, IHM, Kurukshetra, Hotel and Catering Management Institute, Chandigarh, Allied Institute of Hotel Management, Panchkula, Sri Sukhmani Institute, Dera Bassi, Sarva Institute, Panchkula, Chitkara Institute, Chandigarh, and Rayat and Bahara Institute, Kharar.
