Federer eclipses Sampras

EPIC WIN: Although severely tested by Andy Roddick, Roger Federer held firm to keep his date with destiny on Sunday. Having equalled Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slam titles at the French Open earlier this year, Federer became the first man to win 15 majors when he outlasted Roddick 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 16-14 in a tense, dramatic men’s singles final at Wimbledon. Federer secured his sixth crown at The Championships with his only break of serve in the final game.
