GROS ISLET: India won the one-day series against the West Indies 2-1 after Sunday’s fourth and final match was abandoned due to heavy rain. After West Indies was put in, skipper Chris Gayle went to the second ball of the day, caught behind off Ishant Sharma for a duck. Ishant got a back of a length delivery to take the edge of the left-handed batsman’s blade and the snick was gleefully accepted by M.S. Dhoni behind the stumps. Against some good Indian bowling, the home side reached 27 for one in the eighth over when play was stopped due to a downpour. Although the rain later stopped, there was too much water in the outfield for play to resume and after over two hours of waiting the game was abandoned. Both sides are unchanged from the previous match two days ago, when India won by six wickets under the D/L Method. India also won the high-scoring opening ODI by 20 runs two Fridays ago at Sabina Park in Jamaica, and two days later, West Indies rebounded to secure an eight-wicket victory in a low-scoring second ODI at the same venue. This was India’s second ODI series win in the Caribbean. The West Indies begins a two-Test series against Bangladesh next Thursday in St. Vincent while India heads home to enjoy a two-month break. — Agencies © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
