Singing in the rain
While the students are gearing up for the new academic session, this is also the time to make merry under the rejuvenating showers of rain as the monsoon season starts. The showers are welcomed by all, and for the young, it is reason enough for revelry.
It has been almost an annual ritual for children that the first days of school start with rain-dampened shoes and uniforms. What fun it is to play in the slow stream of water that runs through the lanes! Setting paper boats afloat and splashing water on each other, the kids have their share of fun in the rain. Those who cycle their way to school have even greater fun, happy to paddle through those puddles.
The more adventurous among them hurl umbrellas up in the air and watch them splash into water. All this, completely unmindful of all the books in the bag getting wet! Aditi, a Std. III student, has been waiting for monsoons ever since she bought the pink raincoat and dotted yellow umbrella. “I just can’t wait to bring out my new raincoat and umbrella and go out in the rain!” she exclaims. The thrill to get wet in the first showers of rain is unbridled. Tarun waits for the rain just to get drenched and dance under the heavenly showers even though mummy keeps a watchful eye on his playful tricks! While the children devise new ways of enjoying the rain, the market is flooded with new patterns of raincoats and umbrellas to add the extra splash of colour to the monsoon mood. Purples, reds, oranges, blues, pinks, greens and all the shades in between, raincoats and umbrellas have taken on new forms to make the rainy season a memorable experience for everyone.
