Dancing in the rain
Rain rain go away,
Come again another day.
Little Johnny wants to play;
Rain, rain, go to Spain,
Never show your face again!
This is a popular rhyme that reflects how children hate rains. However, with the rains finally making an appearance in the city, children seem to be happy having a splash and enjoying the cool showers. During the monsoon children rush out to play in the rain to refresh themselves or, at school, children enjoy watching the rain from their classrooms. And then a majority of them pray while in school that it should rain when it is time for them to leave. Manish, a Std X student says that it is thrilling to watch the pouring rain and even more exciting is the experience to play during the rains. “We usually enjoy a game of football in a water-logged field. Playing a football game in a slushy field is also a test of one’s athletic skills,” he adds. “This is that one moment during the monsoon I wait for all year through and will not trade this for anything on earth,” he adds. However, for Sameeksha, a Std VI student of St Agnes Higher Primary School it is all about playing in the puddles. I love the puddles. Playing with colourful paper boats along with my friends is my favourite rainy day activity. Taking a walk back home from school in the cool weather, soaking in the rains knowing fully well that we will be admonished by our parents, is great fun, she adds. Shruta, a Std VI student, says “I love the changes that nature undergoes during the season. The colour of the trees undergoes a metamorphosis and nature around looks all green and beautiful. However, I love it if it rains when we leave home for school for if we students are drenched it is likely that the school will declare a holiday. It is absolutely fun like that once in a way,” she adds with a twinkle in her eyes. But it is disappointing if rains subside when we are back from school. I simply enjoy watching rain drops trickling down the roof from the window of my house, she adds.
