AHMEDABAD: The DNA test of the three accused in the Surat gang-rape case has confirmed that the 17-year-old girl was waylaid and raped in a moving car when she was going to tuition class on June 12. The police said the DNA report was “positive.”

The accused were arrested within hours of the crime after they made a threatening call to the girl asking her not to inform the police.

Two of the accused were sons of Gujarat policemen, while the third, considered to be the mastermind of the gang, runs a mobile phone shop.

It was found that selling of rape clippings and MMS is the mainstay of his business.

The raping of the girl was also filmed by the accused through their mobile phone cameras.

The police believed that the same gang was also involved in seven other gang-rape incidents.

Following widespread protests, Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah had promised that the police would request the judiciary to try the case in a special fast track court and ensure “exemplary punishment” to the guilty.
