Marquee moves
Simi Garewal might have made a comeback of sorts with Anil Kapoor production Shortkut if not for the last-minute cut on the editing table. The lady-inwhite plays herself in the film, interviewing Arshad Warsi who plays an actor. The scene was axed since the film had to be trimmed to stick to the 130-minute length. If the scene had stayed, Simi would have been back on screen after two decades.
Akki is mighty pleased Kambhakkht Ishq, no doubt, has been rubbished by critics for its crude comedy catering to front benchers. The film, though, is a hit and has collected almost Rs. 30 crore in the first three days of release. Akshay Kumar is a relieved man, securing a hit after the collosal flop, Chandni Chowk to China. Right now, Rs. 300 crore rides on Akki and the producers of his future films are more than happy.
Where's the money? Actor Kunal Khemu is in trouble. He has been accused of not returning his signing amount despite not wanting to do a film. Producer Ravi Agarwal approached Kunal for a new film, which the actor agreed to. Kunal, fresh after the success of 99, reportedly demanded that the film be directed by a wellknown director and have a leading set designer too. The producer did a rethink since he wasn't ready for a huge budget. Kunal, we hear, has not yet returned the signing and has kept the producer guessing.
Shruti compared to Sonali
The promos of Shruti Hassan's debut film Luck, where she co-stars with Imraan Khan and Sanjay Dutt, are on air. In Bollywood, Shruti is being compared to Sonali Bendre. A few years ago, Dia Mirza was called a look alike of Aishwarya Rai and Shruti, similarly, is said to resemble Sonali. We wonder if Shruti would like it though. Meanwhile, the girl admits she is nervous of how her parents would react after watching her on screen.
