HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
Ha! The wait is finally over. Boy-wizard Harry Potter and his friends are back, with this sixth film in the series. They face darker dangers and mysteries. But, happily there’s plenty of teen romance between Harry and Ron’s sister Ginny. Though it has taken greater liberties in terms of dropping characters and plot points, the film is a rich treat to Potter fans.
ACHCHAMUNDU ACHCHAMUNDU
Here’s a film that tugs at your heartstrings, for it talks about paedophilia. Writer-director Arun Vaidyanathan has deftly handled the story of a young couple with a daughter living in the U.S., and the trauma they face when a paedophile enters their house. The crisp two-hour film is marked by realistic performances by Prasanna, Sneha, Akshaya Dinesh and John Shea. Karthik Raja’s intelligent re-recording is another plus.
VAAMANAN
A young man with dreams of making it as a hero in films enters the world of violence. Not a new storyline, but the film that makes a weak start manages to pick up pace in the second half. Also, the lead pair Jai and Priya does justice to its roles. Despite many improbabilities, the film holds your interest in parts.
