Two more elected to ABVP national body

SHIMLA: After the thrust by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for the elected organisational build up in the party’s frontal organisations the students’ wing, National Students Union of India, has elected their first such body in the State.

Yadupati Thakur, a PG student from Joginder Nagar College in Mandi is the new president and Balwinder Kanwar who lost to him is the new vice-president.

Sandeep Walia, Jia Lal Sharma, Houtam Ram and Surjeet Singh are the newly elected secretaries of the organisation.

Nikita Thakur and Vijender Pal were elected as national delegates from the State. “My priorities would be strengthening the organisation and crack the SFI’s hold over the students central association of Himachal Pradesh University,” said Yadupati Thakur while welcoming the democratic elections in the NSUI.

Praising Rahul Gandhi’s idea, he said, now the students from anterior of the State can also become office bearers and they would not be at the mercy of top politicians for biased nominations.

Meanwhile two students of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad from Himachal, Umesh Dutt and Manchali Thakur, have been elected for the national body of the organisation.

While announcing their new national body, ABVP Chief Milind Marathe and Secretary Vishnu Dutt Sharma said Payal Mago, Kiran, Jai Kumar, Rajneesh Shukla and Ravi Ranjan would be the new vice-presidents. Sunil Ambekar has been retained as the national organisational secretary.

Mr Nagesh Thakur, Indra Dev and Chaman Lal from Himachal have been taken into the national executive, said a spokesman.

The 55th annual convention of ABVP got concluded on Sunday in Una in Himachal Pradesh.
