Training programme for JRC members begins

For concentration: Members of the Junior Red Cross being taught simple yoga at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Krishnagiri on Friday.

KRISHNAGIRI: A three-day training programme for the members of the Junior Red Cross (JRC) began here on Friday.

The annual training programme for the student members of the JRC had been conducted for the last 27 years, C. Senguttuvan, District Coordinator, told The Hindu.

Since 1982, JRC had been giving annual training to 500 students on an average.

This year, 400 students including 150 girls were participating in the residential programme. Student-members studying from Standard VI to Standard XII were being taught how to fight fire in case of emergency with the available materials, first aid and also road safety. The members would also be trained on personal hygiene and how to keep the environment clean.

The JRC members were being given simple yoga training by the resource persons, Mr. Senguttuvan said.

Besides, the students would be explained the history of the JRC and its founder, he added.

M. Rajan, District Education Officer, inaugurated the training programme. Students from the government, government aided schools and private schools are participating in the programme.
