AIADMK to fight against irregularities in PDS

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will resort to agitations if the authorities concerned did not take steps to end the irregularities in the Public Distribution System and to improve basic amenities in the city immediately.

Tirupur MP C. Sivasami told reporters here that considering the growing population, ration shops in the city should be bifurcated to ensure that each shop caters only to a maximum of 750 persons.

“Presently, many of the shops have thousands of consumers attached to it and hence, long queues have become common in front of these shops,” he pointed out.

Mr. Sivasami alleged that widespread irregularities were taking place in the fair price shops in and around the city.

“Our party is planning to constitute squads to trace and prevent smuggling of essential commodities taking place in the district,” he said.

Mr. Sivasami said that despite grievances pouring in from different parts of the city, it was a pity that the Corporation administration did not respond properly to repair badly damaged roads and take mosquito control measures before the monsoon.

“Even as most of the streets in the city are not deemed fit for comfortable transport, the Corporation officials are more interested to beautify the pathways alongside the streets instead of improving the road network,” he added.

Streetlight poles in many of the wards were in pathetic condition and solid waste management in utter chaos.
