Hanging bridge at Areekode soon: VS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Friday decided to build a hanging bridge across the Chaliyar at Moorkankadavu near Areekode in Malappuram where eight students had died in a boat accident on Wednesday.

Briefing the media, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said that the bridge would be constructed on an urgent basis. The families of the dead students would be given Rs.5 lakh each as solatium. The same amount would also be sanctioned to the family of Sojo Thomas who had drowned while crossing the Neyyar Reservoir at Amboori near here on a raft. He said the services of a district judge would be sought for the judicial inquiry ino the boat tragedy at Thekkady.
