Awareness meets planned for parents of differently-abled

Special Correspondent

KADAPA: The fruits of several schemes being implemented for the welfare of differently-abled children were not reaching them and hence awareness meetings would be held for their parents all over Kadapa district, Assistant Director of Disabled Welfare Bhaskar Reddy remarked on Friday.

Speaking at an awareness programme organised by National Trust Local Level Committee at C.P. Brown Memorial Library here, he called upon voluntary organisations to hold awareness meetings from village to district-level. Pension sum for the physically-challenged and differently-abled has been enhanced to Rs. 200 to Rs. 500. Those taking care of such children would be given legal guardianship and they should not depend on the pension of children, he said.

An insurance scheme would be extended to children suffering from autism, different and multiple disabilities , he said.

Local Development Committee member Ramakrishna Reddy said Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar would extend legal guardship to needy children. Chaitanya Educational and Rural Development Society was organising programmes for children.
