Cyclonic weather prevailed throughout the district. District Collector Kantilal Dande convened a meeting to gear up the departments for constituency-level meetings to apprise MLAs and other elected representatives about drought relief measures, including drinking water supply, fodder, distribution of seed, etc. He said the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) would be given special focus in the meetings. He asked the officials to ensure that no machinery was used in the works and adequate work should be provided to check migration. They should also ensure prompt payment to workers. He wanted the officials to furnish village-wise details of works taken up under the scheme. “If there are any irregularities, the amount will be recovered from the officials concerned,” he warned. The first review meeting would be held at Kandukur on Saturday followed by Giddalur and Markapur. He asked the officials to come prepared for the meetings to answer any question . © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
