KRRS to hold rally in Raichur for the flood-hit

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) is organising a protest rally in Raichur on November 9 to demand the waiver of loans for those affected by the floods, sanctioning of new loans and fixing compensation for property loss.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, President KRRS, K.S. Puttanniah, said that a massive procession would be taken out from Ambedkar Circle to Rajendra Ganj, where a protest rally would be organised to urge the Government to fulfil 15 major demands.

Noting that the aerial survey of flood-affected areas conducted by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could not help in assessing the real damage, he demanded formation of teams of officers to assess the ground reality and get the report at the earliest.

Mr. Puttanniah declared formation of farmers’ squads to assess the real damage in case of failure on the part of the Government to take the suggestion of the KRRS. “It is the only way to help the flood-affected in north Karnataka,” he added. Even after one month, the Government was groping in the dark on the extent of damage, he said.

While the flood victims were craving for assistance, elected representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government were behaving irresponsibly.
