Graft cases: court asks ACB for list

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising Chief Justice A.R.Dave and Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy on Friday directed the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to submit list of cases where the government overruled the recommendation and dropped action against officers facing corruption charges.

Reasons sought

The government was asked to look into the list and submit reasons for dropping the action. The Bench took a serious view of government interference in these maters. The Bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by D. Linga Rao, practicing advocate who appeared in the court arguing the case himself. The petitioner submitted a bunch of papers which contained the orders of the government dropping the proceedings.

Mr. Rao said the officers facing charges continued in the same focal posts and then walked away unscathed. The Bench expressed deep anguish at the state of affairs and wanted the material for the last five years so that the issue can be tackled.
