Rain likely for two more days

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Widespread rainfall occurred in Kerala on Friday under the influence of a low pressure system persisting over the Kanyakumari region since Thursday.

Weather charts of India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed the likelihood of this system moving in a north-northwest direction and gaining in strength over the next two days.

Rain clouds hung over southern peninsular India, promising widespread rainfall for at least two or three days for the whole region, The IMD, in its daily bulletin on Friday, forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places in the State during the next 48 hours.

Thiruvananthapuram received heavy rainfall measuring eight cm on the gauge during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday. Other centres that received good rainfall include Aryankavu (5 cm), Koyilandy, Punalur and Varkala (4 cm each), Haripad (3 cm) and Cherthala, Kottayam and Kollam (3 cm each).
