THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Cabinet on Friday decided to introduce health and physical education as part of the syllabus in the schools of the State. The decision comes as sequel to the total fitness programme introduced in schools in 2008. The health-related physical fitness testing done by the Sports Council in schools as part of the programme had shown that the general fitness of students was coming down. The situation worsened with increasing age. Only one-fifth of the students met minimum fitness standards. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
