Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi called upon the Police, Roads and Buildings, Transport and Revenue Departments to bring down the road accident rate by making concerted efforts.

He ordered that parking of vehicles, particularly auto-rickshaws, at important junctions should be regulated and encroachments be removed.

Review meet

Addressing a review meeting on road safety, Mr. Dwivedi said the R&B Department has to put up sign boards at accident-prone areas on highways and warnings in Telugu, English and other languages also.

The civic officials have to be involved in installation of traffic signals in towns. Sale of liquor in road-side shops has to be regulated to prevent accidents.

Guidelines applicable to liquor shops have to be strictly followed.

Mr. Dwivedi instructed the District Education Officer to ask managements of schools located on either sides of the highways to take steps for safe crossing of the roads. Parking of vehicles on the road-sides has to be curbed as instances of speeding vehicles hitting the stationary ones were abound.

Entry of heavy vehicles to the rail-cum-road bridge has to be curbed, he added.

Superintendent of Police Y Nagi Reddy, Deputy Transport Commissioner M. Praveen Kumar and others participated.
