Rajahmundry: East Godavari Superintendent of Police Y. Nagi Reddy has no information on Maoists conducting a reccy on Pilli Subashchandra Bose, Minister for Social Welfare, three days ago in his home constituency, Ramachandrapuram. “Neither I deny the information about the reccy nor confirm it. But there is a spurt in movements of Maoists in the Agency area, maintained Nagi Reddy while speaking to The Hindu on Friday night. However, there is difference of opinion on threats issued by Maoists. Some posters put up by the banned outfit were seen by tribals in Patakota of Maredumilli mandal. A courier of the Maoist party left some letters to release to the press in Kunta block which was prepared by the AOB secretary. But no letter or poster reached any newspaper office till Friday evening. Maoist activity in Y. Ramavaram, Maredumilli, Addateegala mandals has increased in the last one month and Greyhounds were conducting combing operations in these areas. “I too agree that the presence of Maoists is felt in one or two villages. But we will push them out of the district,” the SP added. When contacted, Mr. Bose, denying allegations made by Maoists, said that he enjoyed a clean image and his public life was open to scrutiny. The Minister alleged a plot to tarnish his image. He had no enemies in any party, including Maoists. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
