Cocaine seized, one held

CHENNAI: Officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau on October 29 seized 100 gm of cocaine from a parcel received from Brazil at the Speed Post Concentration Centre at St.Thomas Mount.

According to a release issued by the NCB’s South Zonal Director S. Davidson Devasirvatham, a special team seized the carton box and found the contraband concealed in it. Based on further investigation, a West African national, Donatus Tony Ikwuanusi (33), was arrested on Tuesday at a post office in Tambaram. He was produced in a court and remanded to judicial custody the next day.

The accused confessed to having indulged in drug trafficking. The street price of cocaine was about Rs.5,000 per gm in the city, Mr. Davidson said. Efforts were on to apprehend others associated with Ikwuanusi in drug trafficking, he added.
