VIJAYAWADA: The problem of Vambay Colony house owners will be taken to the attention of Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, said Minister for Housing Shilpa Mohan Reddy. The Minister visited the colony with Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu and Mayor M.V.Ratna Kumari on Friday. He later reviewed the progress of housing under various heads in Krishna district. Mr Reddy said the promise of waiving interest made to beneficiaries by former Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy would be taken to the notice of Mr Rosaiah. He said he had asked district Collector Peeyush Kumar to hold a meetings with bankers to discuss the issue of waiving interest to beneficiaries of Vambay Colony.

He said the State Government had sanctioned the construction of 2,815 houses for the families, whose houses have been fully damaged by the flood in Krishna River in Krishna district. The Minister said the Government had sanctioned Rs 68,450 for the construction of each house. The Minister said of the 1,982 beneficiaries for whom new houses would be constructed 1,149 had own sites and the rest would be provide sites in proper layouts. Another 833 beneficiaries living in island (lanka) villages have requested that they be relocated to areas outside the flood banks of the river.
